In all art but specifically in painting we live in interesting times indeed. Think of this space as an invitation to pull up a chair in my studio ( I will make the coffee) and exchange ideas about everything : from agreeing on a definition of art ( which will never happen), to exploring new angles of the history of art, to both Western and Eastern aesthetics, down to what is the best way to varnish a painting ( if you decide to varnish at all), to what we’re actually looking at. The floor is open and the jury is still out on many of the topics we will broach.
This space is intended to be a two-way street. The world is full of dogmatic assertions. We are thinking things out far less but we are issuing more assertive statements by the thousands. I am only interested in initiating a meaningful exchange. I’m here to answer your queries, but I also want to assimilate your ideas. Does a painting need to tell a story, or is it enough to provide a quiet emotional field? Can we ever truly reach a universal definition of art, or is it always a moving target?
From the atmospheric skies in my Western inspired works to degrees of abstraction and to the historical dialogue between Western and Eastern aesthetics, I want to encourage a real debate. I’ll share my process—the works I am happy with and the occasional ( hopefully) “back to the drawing board” moments—and I hope you’ll share your perspectives in return. Communication is only completed by the reaction of the viewer, so the floor is yours. Let’s see what we can discover together.
