The work represents the human wish to transcend the ordinary and the commonplace and to aspire to a higher level, a higher level of understanding, a higher level of culture, a higher level of quality of life, a higher level of spiritual fulfillment. The values and the colours used here work towards contrasts which reflect the difficulties we encounter in moving upwards. Are we trying to construct a stairway to a good of a higher order, be it heaven or a better understanding and quality of life?
I opted for a very limited palette to convey the message as minimally as possible while glazes are used at different stages of the drying of the painting to enhance the overall unity of the painting.
About this artwork: Classification, Techniques & Styles
Oil
Paint consisting of pigments bound with linseed oil or carnations. The traditional technique consists of superimposing layers of paint increasingly rich in oil for a solid and durable hanger.
Technic Painting
Painting is an art form of painting on a surface by aesthetically applying colored fluids. Painters represent a very personal expression on supports such as paper, rock, canvas, wood, bark, glass, concrete and many other substrates. Work of representation or invention, painting can be naturalistic and figurative, or abstract. It can have narrative, descriptive, symbolic, spiritual, or philosophical content.
“Stairway to Heaven” invites viewers into a world where the ordinary dissolves into the divine. Through its rising forms and luminous transitions, the artwork symbolizes the quiet courage it takes to ascend toward our highest selves. Each step represents a moment of growth—sometimes uncertain, sometimes steep, but always leading toward light, clarity, and purpose. Godwin’s delicate balance of color and composition evokes a sense of spiritual awakening, reminding us that the journey upward is as meaningful as the destination itself. This piece stands as a visual meditation on hope, elevation, and the enduring human desire to reach for something greater.
