A positive message. The concept for this work came to me while I was browsing the works of my favourite playwright, Shakespeare. Falstaff says: “I will not lend thee a penny,” to which Pistol replies: “Why, then, the world’s mine oyster, Which I with sword will open.” The general oyster shape sketch needed some kind of focus and contrast and this focus developed into an abstract concept of a string of rough pearls in warm colours.
To me, the world is my oyster means that life holds for us a number of opportunities that are open to us. Sometimes we realise where these opportunities are and seize them, at other times we miss the tide. But the opportunity is always there, the opportunity to progress and to try to open the oyster, to turn adverse events into opportunities
“The World is Our Oyster” invites us to look beyond the familiar and embrace the infinite possibilities that surround us. Through its colors, textures, and movement, the artwork becomes a reminder that life’s greatest treasures often lie just beyond our comfort zone—waiting to be discovered by those brave enough to dream. Godwin’s piece captures the essence of exploration and hope, celebrating the belief that the world opens itself to those who approach it with curiosity, courage, and an open heart. It is an artistic whisper that encourages us to seek beauty, chase opportunity, and trust that every new horizon holds something extraordinary.
